23 July 2010

Today I received the Brasilian journal Cães & Cia :) Two breeders of flatcoated retriever, I am one of them, and Låtta from the Swedish FCR have got the opportunity to give their individual view on this breed.

I told Fabio, who contaced me, that I am a small breeder of flatcoats, but this was of no importance for him as I had had the breed for many years.

There was a frequent correspondence by email. There were a lot of questions to answer and sometimes it was quite difficult. I order to give an answer about the breed, that corresponded with my view on the flatcoated retriever, I had to translate the questions.

The journal is printed in Portuguese, which I do not understand, but I got the proofs of the article in English so I know what the article says.

By the way, they also wanted some pictures. As I sent some of Libra it implies that she is a bit of a celebrity right now :)

Many thanks to Fabio, who sent me the journal

Hökensås September 2009

During the weekend we, a cheerful gang of dog owners and dogs, have been to Hökensås
to practise different parts that have to do with tracking, cold games etc.
As the weather was fantastic and we were in a wonderful mood it could not be nothing but a perfect weekend.

Kenneth has trained Primo and he has done it very good. Primo, who is his
master´s "boy", ignored my very presence while they were working :)
Kenneth has done a good job and I am thinking about how to make him start Primo
at cold game tests and field trials .....

Libra and I have done not only long but also difficult exercises, with disturbance.
There were a lot of different exercises, for instance work on water, field and search.

I hope we can make this to a tradition,  as this weekend has been useful to us all.
It is worth a lot when you can tell each other both positive and negative parts in your training.

Many thanks to you real enthusiasts who started this :)

Cold game Lillsjön August 2009

This weekend we went to Värmland to participate in another cold game.
It is always nice to meet the lot from Värmland. Birgitta and I made ourselves useful as stewards.
The boat fell to my lot, it was big and nice :)Ingrid and Idun came to participate in the game and Mollie and her "family" came to watch.

This game was the last one for Lydia and she did her best. Birgitta, who has put in a
great deal of work, can be satisfied. Lydia was awarded the third prize in ÖKl. Well done!

It was Iduns's first cold game and she did her best, but was not awarded a prize, this time.
But next time! :) Ingrid has put in a great deal of work on Idun and has done a good job.

Libra did everything to perfection, but I was so nervous so
I gave her too many words of command when she was in the water, as a result
of this we were awarded a second prize.

Primo, my primeur, who did his second start made his debut in "ÖKl".
I just wanted him to get a start so I could see how he coped with the situation.
There were not only a lot of things to think about but also a lot of people watching the game.
He was awarded a third prize. He did a good job and it must be
borne in mind that he is young and this was his second start.
However, I am very satisfied with his work and it is a good omen before next year's cold game at Lillsjön.

Our trip to "Norrland" - the northern part of Sweden

It is time to pack the camper van and take a last photo of Carl and his family. Cima prefers to walk away rather than join the others in the photo! Carl was going to his new home in Japan and I thought it was hard to send him away, but he was so calm and composed and was very interested in the ice bucket that was in the cage. He said "hallo" to the people who checked the cage and he acted as this happened every day. Thank you Debbie for the help at Arlanda! The journey went well and now you can follow Carl on his blog. Thank you Tomoko!

We continued our journey towards the north. Next stop was at Jonas, Anna and Bidde's place then it was time to visit Minna and David in Piteå. As we wanted to see as much as possible of Piteå we made excursions around the city with Minna. We also paid Kenzo a visit, who Libra will be mated by next spring.  On our way south we made another stop at Jonas´s. He was building a kennel for Bidde and we gave him a helping hand.  The work was not finished before we left but the dogs were allowed to invite it. Bidde lives near a lake (300 metres from the house) and the woods (just around the corner) which has a long-distance footpath. My dogs think this is unfair .... but during the stay at Bidde's they had a lot of splenid bathing.

They have had a lot of bathing during this trip even on the bare mountain region above tree line in Norway. The last stop on our trip was at Lars Åke, Monica and Mollie. We all went by the camper van to Sörmon to have a bracing walk and some dummy practice. Thank you Lars Åke, for the nice pictures, and Monica.

Two lovely weeks that passed too fast, but that is how it is when you have a nice time and I have already forgotten that the weather has not been perfect all the time, it has been raining a bit too much.

Today we have had a whole day at Såtenäs, where we had our last practice before the tests in the autumn. We practised all parts, at least we tried to get everything, that go with the different classes. Of course there are things to be polished and as the saying goes; practice makes perfect :) The dogs did a good job.

Below is a small selection from today's session where the following people and dogs took part: Kicki, Brett and Snäckan, Jeanette, Wilma, Fadde and Jippie, Birgitta and Lydia and I (Karin), Libra and Primo. Well, not everyone is in the picture ...... Thanks for today!
